News item on Belgian National television

On April 1 , Belgian National TV (VRT) brought a news item covering our “electrifying” research. The journalist joined us on a sampling trip on board of the RV Simon Stevin to our field site off the Belgian coast. This location, in front of Oostende, is first site worldwide where we could demonstrate the presence and geochemical footprint of electrogenic bacteria under natural conditions.

One thing we did not foresee was the “special” date the item was broadcasted. Some viewers considered the research so extraordinary that they thought it was an April Fools day joke.
